About Me

Please allow me to introduce myself. I have been a teacher with the Los Angeles Unified School District for the past 30 years, beginning in January of 1983. For the past 18 years I have been involved primarily in Educational Technology, either as a teacher or advisor.

My background is in the liberal arts. I have BA's in PoliSci, History and a Masters in Education, as well as an Adminstrative Credential. But, I became interested in using computer technology in the classroom and began integrating technology into my classroom and instruction in the early 90's. Eventually, the opportunity arose to design and assemble a computer lab and develop the technology curriculum at Pio Pico, a K-8 span school. I accepted the challenge and have never looked back. In addition to the computer lab at Pio Pico, I also designed and assembled the labs at John Burroughs MS, and LACES Magnet. I also spent three years out of the classroom as a technology advisor with the Technology Literacy Challenge Grant, where I worked with students and teachers throughout the District on the integration of computer technology into the classroom. I have continued to develop my technology curriculum and pedagogical techniques over the ensuing years.

For the most part, my focus has been on the Middle School years and introductory skills, such as typing, basic Internet skills, word processing and simple graphic design techniques. Over the last five years, however, I have expanded into teaching Web Development and Design, and then Computer Science. This journey has really been one of necessity. Kids need someone to teach them technology and there aren't a lot of people with these skills aching to get into the classroom. For instance, though not a computer scientist per se, students insisted on having an opportunity to take such a class, and I was the only one available to teach it. So, here I am.

Technology Integration

Lucy JpegGenerally, you will find that my classes are taught utilizing the Internet. All of my classes are online, and can be accessed using the links above. I also rely tremendously on existing Internet resources, which I integrate into my curriculum. If you explore my classes, you will discover links to these. To the right, you will find links to some of the general web resources I depend on. I also deliver my own content and material via the web. My goal is to create courses that are fully contained and deliverable via computer technology.

To the right is a picture of my sweetheart, Lucy, a rescue who has been with me a little over a year now. She is about 2½ years old, a predominantly Chow mix(notice the black tongue), with huge ears, and a real beauty. She's a pistol!
